Veterinary Surgeon and Director

Dr Simon Quek graduated from Murdoch University in 2000. He has a keen interest in veterinary dermatology, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. He has spent time working with and learning from the specialists at Murdoch University Veterinary Dermatology Clinic and surgeons at Melbourne University Veterinary School. He completed post graduate studies in Veterinary Dermatology in 2003 and Small Animal Surgery in 2006. Dr Quek was the first in Singapore to start Intra-Dermal Skin Testing and Immunotherapy for allergic dogs and cats in 2004. In 2010, in collaboration with Heska AG, he introduced Heska Allercept tests with a specific Asian panel for South East Asia, which is the only test available in Singapore which is for allergens specific to Singapore. He continues to see referral dermatology cases at his practice at Hillside Veterinary Surgery Pte Ltd.

In his spare time, he is a keen bird and landscape photographer and participates in Ironman triathlon races.

Dr Ruth Lin graduated from Murdoch University in Perth. From a young age, her interest in animals lead her to work as a veterinary nurse before going to Western Australia and pursuing her dream of being a Veterinary Surgeon. She then worked both rural and metropolitan Australia for 4 years before coming back to Singapore. During her work there, she got to experience working with both small animals and horses. She has got a special interest in imaging, emergency and surgery.

In her free time, Ruth goes to a F45 gym for a good cardio work out. She also loves to learn new skills like pottery and playing the guitar in addition to having a good zi char seafood meal.

She is owned by a cat named Miracle, who has captured the hearts of many people online.

Dr Cheryl Chua

Veterinary Surgeon

Dr Cheryl graduated from Murdoch University and worked in Hong Kong at a multibranch clinic and referral hospital for over a decade before joining Hillside Veterinary Surgery. Dr Cheryl is experienced in echo cardiology, abdominal ultrasonography, advanced soft tissue surgery and orthopedic procedures. She has completed post graduate studies in feline medicine from Sydney University and is currently enrolled in Masters of Veterinary Medicine in Massey University.

During her spare time, Dr Cheryl is a slave to her two cats and her French bulldog.

Dr. Pauline Fong graduated from Murdoch University (Western Australia) in 2004 and has since worked as a small animal general practice clinician at several established veterinary practices in Singapore.

Dr. Fong has post-graduate veterinary certificates in Dermatology, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Behaviour, and Natural Nutrition. In 2018, she obtained a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) from Chi University (Florida), the highest academic credential for TCVM.

Dr. Fong has published in the area of veterinary acupuncture: Fong P, Xie H. Comparison of the sedation effect of dry needle acupuncture on An-Shen versus intramuscular butorphanol in 24 companion dogs. American Journal of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. 2019; 14(1): 5-10.

Professionally, Dr. Fong's goal is to provide quality medical care to patients through integrative veterinary medicine by complementing TCVM modalities of Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Food Therapy, and Tui-na with conventional Western medicine. Her veterinary interests are focused on preventative and palliative care to achieve optimal quality of life for furkids.

At home, Dr. Pauline shares her space with a variety of fluffy family members (dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters).

Dr. Aria graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2020.

She then worked in a 24-hr & emergency centre in Surrey, England for 2 years, seeing dogs, cats and small furries, before coming home and joining Hillside Veterinary Surgery. Prior to vet school, Aria worked as a veterinary nurse at a busy veterinary practice in Singapore.

She enjoys all aspects of first opinion pricatice, but has a special passion for veterinary dentistry and neurology, as well as anaesthesia and analgesia.

When she is not at work, Aria enjoys outdoor walks, yoga and trying out new recipes from Instagram. At home, her bestest friend is a lovely Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Anya.

Eunice Chang

Eunice Chang

Clinic Manager

Eunice graduated in 2001 with a diploma in Maritime Transportation . However, the draw of working with animals was stronger so Eunice got her first job as a technician in a veterinary clinic in 2003. She had a keen interest in working with dogs and cats, especially geriatric animals but also excelled at speaking to clients so would also do reception work. Her versatile nature and attention to detail soon resulted in her promotion to clinic manager, a role she has thrived in. She completed her degree in Business and Human Resource Management in 2014 to ensure she was in the best possible position to do her job and help the clinic thrive. Eunice ensures the clinic runs like a well-oiled machine. She helps out both at the front desk and as a technician whenever there is a need. She is also the main person in charge of all administrative work for the clinic. In her spare time, Eunice enjoys exercising with her friends, cooking with her family and playing with Eden, her rescued Miniature Schnauzer.

Fernandez Mc Ernol Albino

Laboratory Manager

Mac graduated from Centro Escolar University (Philippines) in 2006 with a Degree in Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. He worked as a Medical Technologist/ Microbiologist in the Philippines for 3 years before moving to Singapore in 2011. Since then he has been engaged in Allergy Testing and performing all of the clinic laboratory procedures. He also helps with the front desk as a receptionist and assists the technicians.

Outside work, Mac loves spending time with his family, playing basketball and cooking.

Loh Hai Ning

Loh Hai Ning

Receptionist

Everyone who has been to Hillside Veterinary Surgery would know Hai Ning. She is the face of the front desk and her sunny personality and ready smile make the front of the clinic a brighter place to be. Hai Ning is in charge of the reception area, she is the main person who manages the vet schedules and bookings as well as ensuring that clients receive the optimal client experience at the front of the house. She is also responsible for ordering in animal diets, medication and supplies for the clinic. She is always ready to reassure anxious clients and pets, give new pets a cuddle, dispense treats to dogs and cats who are waiting and have a chat with anyone who comes through the front door.

Hai Ning has 2 young children, a dog called Amour and between them, does not have much spare time. In the little time she has, she enjoys exercising and playing with her pets and children.

Jennifer Chan-Sio

Jennifer Chan-Sio

Veterinary Technician

Jennifer Chan-Sio has been working as a vet nurse in Singapore since 2011. She graduated with a DVM from De La Salle Araneta University and has been working with animals in the Philippines and Singapore since then. Jen is passionate about animal health and welfare, she can often be seen grooming hospitalised animals to try to calm and relax them. She is also an advocate for continuing education, seeking to keep herself up to date on her veterinary knowledge.

Alison Wah

Alison Wah

Veterinary Nurse

With a great passion for animals at a young age, Alison started her career as a volunteer in 2005, full time veterinary nurse in 2007 and has never stopped caring for animals including exotics both in Singapore and even overseas.

Understanding that a home is where her patients would feel most secure and comfortable, she started providing medical housecall services in 2008 to provide better medical care and comfort for her patients, which in turn also provide reassurance to their owners.

She is currently owned by 2 fur daughters, a Miniature Schnauzer and a Yorkshire Terrier who are absolutely adorable!

Apart from working, she loves doing pottery, judo and is a collector of air plants.
